5 Costumes For Basics

Mmmmkay friends. Time for a costume DIY!

All you need is one black dress. We’re going to add some very basic items, many of which you already own, and turn that one dress into 5 costumes.

Open your closet. We’re getting started right now.

Costume 1. Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

This costume is a classic for a reason.

Add: Pearls, tiara or sparkly hair clip, black gloves, black heels, cigarette strainer, oversized black sunglasses. If you want to be super true to the movie, don’t forget a coffee and a pastry.

Costume 2. “Basic” Witch.

There’s 2 options here. You can be a witch. Again a classic, simple Halloween costume that will never go out of style. OR you can go the topical/humorous route and be a BASIC witch…

Option 2A. Witches hat, cute black shoes

Option 2BASIC. ADD: To go coffee cup, cell phone, scarf, boots and leggings

Costume 3. Cat or Bat

This costume is following the “Mean Girls” philosophy that you can add animal ears to any slutty outfit and make it a Halloween costume. Keeping it simple and then adding a easy, big impact costume piece here is critical. So if you’re a bat, go for a cape or wings of some kind. If you’re a cat, paint your face or bring a cat toy when you go out.

ADD: cat or bat ears and either a tail or wings. Animal facepaint is optional, but definitely encouraged!

Costume 4. French Maid.

It’s a silly costume, but still a classic.

ADD: white apron, foofy heady band, feather duster, heels

Optional: Use a horrible French accent all night

Costume 5. Burglar.

This is a fun excuse to wear a mask. Just make sure you don’t walk in the dark by yourself. NO ONE WILL SEE YOU.

ADD: Mask, black gloves, money bag, black shoes for a quick get away.
